Basic Department of Technologies and Translation Automation

We have combined the social responsibility of business with a proactive approach to personnel policy and have made the training of future translators one of our key field of activity. When training translators and editors, we recommend not to separate technological and managerial competencies, but, on the contrary, to integrate them into every lesson, every course, and every subject. In every interaction with a future translator, we must keep in mind his future profession.

the Linguistics University of Nizhny Novgorod, the Siberian Federal University, the Russian New University, the Herzen State Pedagogical University, St. Petersburg State University, Higher School of Economics (HSE University), and the National University of Science and Technology MISIS. AKM Translations has taken part in the Summer and Winter translation Schools of the Union of Translators of Russia. And, finally, the company reached completely new level in 2018 upon opening the first (and so far only) Base department of translation in the history of Russia.

On September 24, 2018, the basic department of translation technologies and automation was created at the AKM-West translation agency. It is part of the Higher School of Social Sciences, Humanities and International Communication of the Northern Federal University named after M.V. Lomonosov. In October 2018, the first industrial practice of NArFU students began. A month later, the first lectures and practical classes took place. Associate professors of the department, along with their colleagues from Arkhangelsk, concurrently became the directors of AKM Translations, taking on more than 350 academic hours per year.

This project allowed the university to receive information about employer requirements and assistance in training. We provide access to technological knowledge and aspects of translation activities that are not sufficiently reflected in university programs.

For our company, this is an opportunity to improve the quality of education, develop our own educational programs and work with young, qualified personnel.

NArFU’s educational standards in linguistics (bachelor's and master's programs), developed and established at the department, are based on the professional standard Specialist in the Field of Translation. In 2021, the Master's program "Technologies of Computer-Aided and Machine Translation" was launched at the Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M.V. Lomonosov, in which three higher schools of the university participate.

Cooperation with the Northern Federal University is a priority project for the formation of a personnel reserve for the AKM-West company and the entire industry.

Currently, the Base Department of AKM Translations participates in the training of students according to the programs:

The Base Department uses a free academic license of the Phrase automated translation system www.phrase.com. We thank the developer of this platform for many years of cooperation and participation in lectures, workshops and other projects.
